I had to run into town for a few errands and did a quick Food Lion run. I just wanted to point out the Capri Sun in particular because I don’t think I have ever seen them priced so low. Right now they are just $1 for the 10 ct box of Capri Sun. There is a limit of 5. This is definitely a stock up price for summer!

I also wanted to mention this  manager’s special I ran across. Sara Lee Black Pepper Roasted Turkey Breast in the Deli is on manager special for $4.99 lb. Plus sitting on the deli counter are Sara Lee coupons for $1 off Sara Lee Deli Meat 1/2 lb or more. I bought a half pound which was $2.50 and then used the $1 coupon. So, $1.50 for 1/2 lb of deli meat and I think that is a great price.

The manager special on the deli meat could be just my Food Lion. However, the capri sun is everywhere.

Happy Shopping!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I wanted to republish this article about finding contentment and knowing that every little thing that mom’s do make a difference. So, if you are feeling weary or heavy hearted this might be something good to read today! This was originally published last summer.

I have been a stay at home mom for nearly 4 years now. My oldest is turning 3 but I was home for that entire pregnancy. Over the course of those years, I’ve struggled, debated and wondered more days than I’d like to admit if I should go back to work. Why? Because this stay at home mom thing is hard and lunch breaks are never guaranteed! And also, because I really didn’t think I was very good at it. And then I admit, a small part of me thought, “this is why I have 2 degrees”?

But God has been working on my heart and showing me I’m right where I’m supposed to be. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that being a stay at home mom is for everyone or that everyone should do it. I am NOT saying that. I’m just saying that for ME, I have found my place for  this season of my life. I have found contentment.

Have you heard the new Steven Curtis Chapman song? If not, you really should go listen. You can hear the full version of “Do Everything” here. I promise you’ll be encouraged and find new joy in being the keeper of the cheerios. What I do matters.

And I found this blog post really encouraging as I was reminded to be still and realize God does important work from sick beds and stay at home moms.

I think I had forgotten how important what I do is until I saw it not being done.I went to Target this week and noticed a dad (I guess) and daughter getting out of their car and walking across the parking lot. The little girl maybe about 5 was trailing behind the man with her teddy bear as the man busily texted on his phone ahead of her. He didn’t hold her hand. He didn’t make sure there were no cars coming. He didn’t watch her at all. He didn’t even talk to her.  I drove cautiously in my SUV in fear that she would run from him all the while wanting to shout to him, “Hold her Hand!”

It matters. A good morning hug, reading books, singing together, baking cookies…….It all matters. Our children are watching and learning. Baking cookies is so much more than a sweet treat. Kids learn task completion, measurements and how to follow instructions just by baking together.

I’m not sure where you are at in your journey. Maybe you have just become a stay at home mom or have been for years.  Wherever you are, I encourage you to know that you do make a difference. What you do matters.

Invisible Mother

by kathy on May 13, 2012

Since starting my blog, I have posted this every Mother’s Day because I think it’s so encouraging. I hope reading it becomes  a source of encouragement for you as well. It’s long but I think worth the read!  Happy Mother’s Day! I hope you have a wonderful day!

This is an excerpt from Invisible Mother by Nicole Johnson.

INVISIBLE MOTHER

It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I’m on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I’m thinking, ‘Can’t you see I’m on the phone? ‘Obviously not; no one can see if I’m on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I’m invisible. The invisible Mom..

Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more! Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this?? Some days I’m not a pair of hands; I’m not even a human being. I’m a clock to ask, ‘What time is it?’ I’m a satellite guide to answer, ‘What number is the Disney Channel?’ I’m a car to order, ‘Right around 5:30, please.’I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated summa cum laude -but now, they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She’s going, she’s going, she’s gone!?

One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England . Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, ‘I brought you this.

It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe . I wasn’t exactly sure why she’d given it to me until I read her inscription: ‘To Charlotte , with admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees.’In the days ahead I would read – no, devour – the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work: No one can say who built the great cathedrals – we have no record of their names.

These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything. A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, ‘Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof, No one will ever see it.

And the workman replied, ‘Because God sees.’I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place

It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, ‘I see you. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does.No act of kindness you’ve done, no sequin you’ve sewn on, no cupcake you’ve baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can’t see right now what it will become. At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction.. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life.

It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride.I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.

When I really think about it, I don’t want my son to tell the friend he’s bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, ‘My Mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for 3 hours and presses all the linens for the table.’ That would mean I’d built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, ‘You’re gonna love it there.

As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we’re doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.
If you made it to the end, I’m guessing you found this as encouraging as I have year after year! Happy Mother’s Day.

This might be something you all know but until recently it never dawned on me to cook eggs in the microwave.  My little guy wakes up ready for breakfast so I had to come up with something that was quick. I’m not used to this because my little girl wakes up slow and has no desire to eat when she first wakes up! Anyway, I love that I don’t have to dirty a pan and the eggs can be done in less than 2 minutes.

Instructions

Spray a microwave safe cup with nonstick cooking spray

Put 2 eggs and 1 T milk in cup and stir

Microwave for 45 seconds and stir

Microwave for another 45 seconds

And that’s is it! If you like your eggs runny then just lower the cooking time.

Target has their Easter clearance marked to 70% off. I also noticed that the black dot seasonal merchandise is 70% off too. This is a great time to pick up for next year. I also found many things in the dollar spot section that were not just Easter.

My little girl has requested goody bags at this summer’s birthday party and I found the cutest little purses in the 70% off section that I’ll use! At just $.30 each, you can’t beat it and I like things that are practical and the girls can actually use again!

I also picked up a 4 ct pack of sprinkles that will be cute for cupcakes this spring and summer for only $.75.

Let us know what you find!
