About/Contact
Hi! I’m Kathy, the mom behind Birch Creek Mom and the former home of $30 Weekly Grocery Challenge. I have 2 precious children and a great husband that are my biggest blessings in life! There is never a dull day in our house with 2 children under 3! I am a work in progress and am continuously learning how to be a good steward of our money and the blessing God has given us. I started my frugal journey 2 years ago and sure wish I had started sooner! I’ve learned what it means to stretch a dollar and live within a budget! The freedom this has given us is unmeasurable and I never envisioned this way of life could actually leave us with MORE than when we had 2 incomes! I hope you will join me as I share lots of deals so that you can stretch your budget too!

Dear Kathy,
My name is JC Conrad and I am one of the owners of Zaycon Foods.
I am writing to enquire if, in the foreseeable future, you would be interested in doing a review and giveaway of our high-quality fresh boneless skinless chicken breasts and our fresh 93/7 ground beef.
ZAYCON FOODS – BACKGROUND & SPECIALTY
We sell a variety of fresh, high-quality meat products at wholesale prices direct to consumers.
Our first specialty item is Fresh Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts — 100% natural chicken with no added hormones, additives or artificial ingredients. These high-quality butterfly breasts could not be any fresher, as they come straight from the farm direct to our savings events.
Our second specialty item is Fresh 93/7 Ground Beef – 100% raised in the USA with no hormones, additives or water added to meat during processing. It is processed at a USDA-inspected, state-of-the-art plant employing strict operating protocols (including HACCP) and the highest in food-safety standards. Because our goal is to deliver great value and large savings to our customers, we only sell our products by the case.
SAVINGS EVENTS
Our customers purchase our products online via our secure website and then pickup their order at a specific Zaycon Foods Savings Event. We have held these savings events at specific locations throughout the Pacific Northwest, in over 45 cities and towns in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. We have just completed events in the Dallas Texas area and Phoenix Arizona area and are starting to expand to other new areas throughout the US.
ZAYCON FOODS COMING TO ARIZONA
We would like to discuss the possibilities of coming to your area. With this in mind, we would like to ask for your assistance in helping to generate interest. Please permit us to ask a few questions:
• Would a Zaycon Foods savings event be of interest to your readers?
• Is there a geographic concentration among your readers? If so, where?
• Where are you located (City and State?)
CHICKEN GIVEAWAY DETAILS
As our expansion plans firm up, we would like to overnight you a complimentary sample of our fresh chicken breasts and ground beef. Then, after personally trying our chicken and ground beef, we would ask you to consider doing a review of this product and inviting your readers to register on our website for future savings events. Also, we would be happy to work with you to host a giveaway contest on your blog for your readers to win a free case (40 lbs) of fresh, boneless skinless chicken from Zaycon Foods. (If the winner is not within the geographic area of a future savings event, we would provide a gift card to their preferred local grocery store.)
When we come to your area for our first-time savings event, we will also provide you with a free 40 lb case of chicken.

Just want you to know that I really love your website and check it everyday!! I got the Walgreen’s deal today! And I used your food planner for this week! You are a blessing!!
Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m so glad I can help! Glad you got the Walgreens deal. We actually don’t have a Walgreens here…just CVS but I’m sure one day we will get one! So happy the meal plan worked out for you!
I have just started coupon shopping this last month. So far I have got some good deals on shampoo, condition, etc. but I haven’t been able to strike great deals with my actual grocery shopping. I do live in Southern California and am wondering if that may have something to do with it. We only have one store that doubles and they only double up to a dollar
But I am just hoping that you have some advice for me. I have four kids (need a stockpile!!!) and my youngest was born with a severe heart condition so we are learning how to live off of a much smaller income… I have become a stay at home mom.
Thanks,
Amber
Riverside, CA
Amber,
I understand about no doubles. While I don’t live in Southern California but in Southern Virginia, our 1 store that doubled and sometimes tripled closed. That also was about the same time the other grocery store I shopped at stopped allowing coupon stacking (using a manuf. and store coupon). As you can imagine, I did feel it in my budget!
So, I did a couple of things:
1) I started shopping at Wal-Mart and Aldi’s.
2) Utilizing the drug stores more
I feel that even if don’t coupon at all w/ your groceries but can get your personal items for free or cheap then it will greatly reduce your budget. Especially for a family! So, since you don’t live in a town with great grocery deals, focus on the drugstores and getting what you can for free/cheap. Build your stockpile of personal items so you never have to pay full price but simply run to your stockpile when you need an item.
If you have a Wal-Mart maybe start shopping there some and see if it helps as they do accept coupons. Maybe you can start grocery shopping there. (not sure if you have one though?)
But since you do have 1 store that doubles, that may be more helpful that you realize. You can shop at that store when they have really good sales. Combine a coupon w/ that sale and you may just have something really inexpensive. Build your stockpile that way with groceries. It will be slow at first but then before you know it, you will have a stockpile. Then once you have your stockpile in place, that will free up more of your grocery budget for fresh items.
Hope this helps!
Kathy
Can you please tell me how to get rid of the “facebook like me ” that stays on the page. It is so annoying when you are scrolling down thru the web site. I thought it would go away since I do “like” you on facebook but it is always there.
So, even after you click “Like” it still floats on the page?
I already get your newsletter. I find it very useful. Thanks for the opportunity to try
for the Target Giftcard.
You’re welcome! So glad you enjoy the newsletter. Make sure to leave a comment on the actual giveaway post to count for entry. Thanks!
Hey Kathy,
I saw a few visitors from your site and just saw that you had linked to one of my posts! I am tickled at how God is using the blog world to connect people to each other and to Him!
Staying home IS so hard and so draining, and it’s been such a blessing to connect to moms from all over for support and encouragement.
Blessings to you,
Amanda
Amanda,
I can’t even remember how I stumbled across your blog but I’m certain it was a “God Thing”. The day I saw that post, it was exactly the day I needed to read it and it blessed me beyond measure. And I marked it in my favorite folder so that I could look back on it when I needed some encouragement
Kathy
Help! I am trying to find a link that you (*I think*) posted about making your own green cleaners over the summer. I can not find the recipes and my bottles need to be refilled. They have been awesome! I love your site and all the info you pack into it! Thank you so much!
I’m sorry Katie but it wasn’t me that posted recipes for green cleaners. If I knew who it was I would let you know but I don’t. Thanks also for your kind words and for visiting my site!
Hi Kathy,
I have written to you before and was so surprised when you answered! That was a year or two ago. I was sad to read about you losing your mom. Just wanted you to know that I will be thinking of you! And as a “Richmonder” I understand about the Tech game! GO HOKIES!
Thanks so much! It’s tough but I have peace in knowing she is no longer in pain and in Heaven.
Thanks for following my blog from the $30 days! Kathy
Oh, you are not far at all in Richmond! Yes, my husband is a BIG VA Tech fan. I grew up in Carolina so I love the Tarheels but he’s slowly converting me with each year of marriage
